The individual will perform neutronics and depletion analyses (design and safety) related to new reactor design, reactor feasibility studies, and conversion of existing research reactors to the use of new fuel, including modification of the fuel assembly, reactor system, and/or operation (fuel cycle and other characteristics). The individual will develop applicable physical, mathematical models and computational strategies for the design and deployment of new reactor fuels into a range of research and test reactors. Predictions of reactor performance characteristics, analyzing experimental results, performing alternative simulations, software development and validation, are key areas of work to support regulatory licensing efforts. The individual willdocument and prepare reportsin collaboration with reactor and program technical requirements.+ o perform the essential functions of this position successful applicants must provide proof of U.S. citizenship, which is required to comply with federal regulations and contract. Illegal drug testing as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 and a background investigation will be required prior to employment. Subsequent re-investigations may be required.+ Knowledge of one or more specialized areas of fission reactor physics, engineering, or fuel systems.+ Knowledge of nuclear engineering principles, theories, and practices for the design and analysis of fission reactor systems, and preferably for research and test reactor systems.+ Skill in the conception, design, and evaluation of innovative approaches and solutions to quantitative problems is necessary.+ Knowledge of programming or scripting languages, is required.+ Skills in the use of computers and in the analysis of computational results, in the clear and effective documentation and communication of results, and in interaction with co-workers and support personnel are required.+ Experience with Software development and/or validation would be an asset.+ Demonstrated interpersonal, oral, and written communication.+ Ability to model Argonne's Core Values: Impact, Safety, Respect, Integrity, and Teamwork.This level of knowledge is typically achieved through a formal education in nuclear engineering, mechanical engineering, or associated field at the Ph.D. degree level & 0+ years' professional experience, or Master's degree & 3+ years, or Bachelor's degree & 5+ years of ~~~ an equal employment opportunity and affirmative action employer, and in accordance with our core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity and teamwork, Argonne National Laboratory is committed to a diverse and inclusive workplace that fosters collaborative scientific discovery and innovation.
