Arkema in the Americas has an opening for a Dangerous Goods Compliance Specialist. This position supports the communication of hazardous materials transportation regulations, IMDG, ICAO/IATA, TDG, and CFR 49 as they relate to Arkema Inc. and Bostik Inc. production, packaging, and shipping, the communication of OSHA/GHS regulations pertaining to labeling and classification in coordination with the transportation regulations.

 

Reports to the Manager, Dangerous Goods Compliance and has no direct reports. Preference is for the position to be based out of our NA Corporate Headquarters in King of Prussia, PA, otherwise the role may be based out of another Arkema facility. 

 

This role is eligible for a Senior designation for those with greater experience and qualifications.

 

KEY ACTIVITIES

 

  • Assist with activities related to entry of bills of lading hazardous materials descriptions for all modes of transport within the company’s SAP systems and MDP. (35%)
  • Support for the evaluation and identification of types of packaging that comply with regulatory requirements and that minimize the risk of shipping the company’s hazardous materials. Assist Business Units. (15%)
  • Support in activities relating to hazardous materials transportation compliance by implementing procedures and policies, and auditing, to reduce risk and liability while ensuring hazardous materials are transported in compliance with all domestic and international transportation regulations. (15%)
  • Support in the determination of the classification of Arkema Inc.’s and Bostik Inc.’s hazardous materials with assistance from the applicable Business Unit Product Safety Representative and Toxicology. Support Business Unit Product Safety and HES with sections 2, 3, 9, 11, 12, 14 and 15 as they pertain to GHS transportation

classification. (20%)

  • Other related responsibilities (15%)
    • Support activities related to implementation of the company’s Hazmat training program.
    • Participation in the Institute of Packaging Professionals Chemical Packaging Committee and the Dangerous Goods Advisory Council.
    • Support as needed when applying for and/or requests from DOT or applicable agency with the company’s required hazardous materials registrations, requested special permits, and special approvals.
    • Perform all other duties within scope as specified by Manager.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred with 3 years of experience in similar role or Associate’s Degree required with 5 years of direct experience with hazardous materials packaging.
  • Current CFR 49, IATA/ICAO and IMDG
  • Minimum 5 years’ overall experience in hazardous materials shipping.
  • Minimum 3 years’ direct experience in compliance focused on hazardous materials shipments and labelling.
  • Experience with evaluation and identification of packaging types that comply with regulatory requirements.
  • Working knowledge of hazardous materials transportation regulations, IMDG, ICAO/IATA, TDG, and CFR 49 as they relate to Arkema Inc. and Bostik Inc. production, packaging, and shipping.

 

 

COMPETENCIES:

 

  • Understanding and interpretation skills of all hazardous materials regulations
  • Experienced in use of computers and Microsoft Office Suite
  • Familiarity with ERP is preferred, SAP experience is a plus.
  • Ability to recognize inefficient or redundant processes and recommend new or revised procedures.
  • Ability to plan and execute goals, understand failures, and adjust plans to meet goal attainment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, communication and negotiating skills.
  • Detail oriented, with excellent prioritization and follow-up.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively navigate and work within in a global and culturally diverse environment.
