Things Are Looking Up for Wind Turbine Maintenance Jobs

If you're not afraid of heights and high winds, there may be a future for you in Wind Power.

Wind turbine maintenance jobs are becoming increasingly popular and the demand for these highly skilled jobs is on the upswing as President Obama urges the nation to exploit this green power technology.

It's no secret that the alternative energy industry is experiencing phenomenal growth. Individuals who are experienced or skilled in wind turbine maintenance will enjoy a wide range of employment options and opportunities. And not just in the U.S. Europe and Asia are leading the charge for wind power. Many countries are looking to the future and are ready to invest in sources of renewable energy.

To take advantage of the many career options in this field, you'll need proper training and certification. Many universities offer training in wind turbine maintenance and will provide certification for those who have successfully completed their programs. These programs are typically 40 weeks long. To apply for these programs, you'll need to pass an assessment test in wind turbine maintenance with an aggregate of 70 percent or above.

As a Wind Turbine Technician, you'll work on towers and platforms that soar 300+ feet above the ground. And you'll be troubleshooting and diagnosing electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic malfunctions. You'll perform scheduled maintenance and general service on the wind turbines. And you'll work with complex wind-related instructions and procedures as well as diagrams.
