Pacific Gas and Electric PowerPathway™ Program Offers Career Opportunities

Energy hungry states like California will need new skilled energy workers in the coming decade. One company taking a lead in supplying those workers is Pacific Gas and Electric Company--through its (PG&E) PowerPathway™ program.

By collaborating with educational and workforce investment systems, labor and industry, PowerPathway hopes to open up career opportunities to new energy jobs. To enlarge the talent pool of qualified skilled craftworkers and identify candidates for employment, PG&E offers the following PowerPathway Bridge Programs:

Bridge to Pre-Apprentice/Utility Worker—These customized, short-term courses at local community colleges add to a potential candidates' knowledge of the energy and utility industry.

Bridge to Utility Equipment Mechanic—Here, candidates who have achieved journey-level status (or equivalent) in their respective fields receive advanced-level training.

Intensive Bridge to Solar Water Heating Installer—This training program gives candidates the knowledge they'll need to install photovoltaic panels and residential water heater plumbing. All applicants must hold a valid California-issued Contractors State License Board (CSLB) class A, B, C-4, C36 or C46 license. Applicants should also have proven photovoltaic panel installation or plumbing experience.

Meter Reader Transitional Program—Ideal for those PG&E Meter Readers who are looking to transition to other careers as smart meters are deployed. Applicants must be an existing or recently displaced Meter Reader to participate.

PowerPathway Capstone Programs—Added coursework for students who have completed a prerequisite associate degree or certificate.

PowerPathway Endorsed Programs—For those who wish to expand their formal training by completing coursework identified as related to PG&E positions. These programs lead to certificates of completion or associate degrees.
