New York Host Fashion Week

With New York's Fashion Week in full swing, designers from all over the world have gathered in the Big Apple to show their Spring 2011 collections. There are two major fashion weeks in the city, with the fall designs being shown in February and the spring collections in September.

Last year, New York City promised to make this year's production bigger than ever by moving it away from the traditional tents at Bryant Park. So this year, Fashion Week moved to Damrosch Park at the Lincoln Center complex, which is the home of the Metropolitan Opera house and the American Ballet Theatre. There is even a facade entrance that is 60 feet wide and 70 feet high.

Instead of the traditional tent, guest will go through the entrance on the red carpet and then make their way to the main “tent” which is now the Theatre at Lincoln Center, which seats 969 people and has a much larger backstage area.

This fashion festival, which attracts high-powered media moguls and Hollywood stars, attracts over 100,000 attendees, and hires many interns from the city fashion schools. Aspiring designers and students all vie for the chance to work as a volunteer during this celebration of high fashion.

But for fashion fans who haven't received a coveted invitation, you can watch the full coverage on the local TV 25 channel. The news station devotes more than 150 hours of coverage along with nightly recaps all week long.
