Don't Miss Out On Summer OR The Perfect Job

Posted by

The summer is upon us. Sunshine, beaches, pools, patios and cold drinks all distract us from our hunt for the perfect job. Dragging ourselves away from the beautiful weather, friends and fun activities to send out resumes and go to interviews can seem like such a downer. So how can you make the most of the warm weather and still get your dream job? Here are some great ideas.

Use Your Cellphone Number – Putting your cellphone number on your resumes means you're not tied to the house waiting for phone calls.

Take Advantage of Free Wifi – Many restaurants and shopping centers now offer free wifi connections to their customers. Grab your laptop and send out those resumes electronically from the comfort of a restaurant patio with a tall glass of iced tea.

Smart-phones Are A Smart Idea – Anywhere you go your cell can go too. Have a smart-phone? Use your browser to hunt down and save jobs that you would like to apply for while lounging in the sun on the beach.

Brainstorm In The Backyard – Grab some paper, some pens and a few friends and head for the backyard to have a brainstorming session or do mock interviews. Being prepared for interviews is just as important as applying for jobs, it is completely acceptable to make some time for prepping.

Vacations = Opportunities – Always wanted to work for a certain company whose head office is in a different state? Why not take your summer vacation there? Send in your resume well in advance and if possible call the company and speak to human resources. Explain that you are very interested in working for them and that you're making plans to come into town and would love to get together. Two birds, one stone AND you're showing initiative to the company.

Practice Time Management – Try to schedule interviews in the morning, it leaves you the afternoon when its hottest to laze by the pool or head out for ice cream. Send out your resumes in the evenings after the sun has gone down to maximize sun time.

Enjoy The Moment – Driving to an interview in great weather? Open the windows and crank up the tunes in the car. Grab an iced coffee drink on the way and just enjoy the drive. Not only will you have enjoyed the weather but you will arrive nice and relaxed at your interview.

Take A Day Off – Job hunting is a full-time job in itself. See a gorgeous day coming up on the weather channel? Work hard and then take that day for yourself. Taking a break will help ease frustration and keep you from getting worn out.

Last but not least, keep cool. Super hot weather can be unsafe if you over exert yourself or stay out too long in the sun. Sunscreen, water, shade and popsicles are absolute summer job hunt essentials.
