It seems like every time you turn on your computer or the television, it's just more bad news. The tech industry has been hard hit by the economic recession and, as a whole, it has been struggling with lay offs and budget cutback.
However, there is some good news on the horizon. According to the Wall Street Journal, the number of planned lay offs throughout the industry have decreased during the month of June and experts believe that this decrease is the beginning of what is predicted to be an industry wide turn around.
John Challenger, CEO of Challenger, Gray & Christmas, was quoted saying:
"Generally, this sector is benefiting from the fact that there's increased spending on tech by companies. During the recession, many companies deferred their spending on new technology. They rode with what they had. But as companies get more cash and liquidity, they're beginning to spend on it replacing their technology, taking advantage of new tech that's been developed, jumping on the social networking bandwagon."
It looks as though that new spending will generate an increased demand for skilled IT workers and tech workers in general. In fact, the telecommunications sector announced just 400 new lay offs in June, as opposed to 1,581 in May. That's not a small decrease.
All of the reports are indicating that the tech industry is in a good place right now and is expected to grow over the next few months. As companies begin to recover from the tight economy, more of them are going to be hiring new employes and upgrading their computer systems. As that happens, more jobs will become available for technical support and maintenance.
In fact, many companies laid off the bulk of their IT and technical staff during restructuring and cut backs. These companies will be looking to rebuild their departments and increase their staff in order to meet the demand as their employee rosters grow.
