While on the surface, bringing a Twitter-like experience into a work situation may not seem that appealing, when you actually think about it, it is a very fast way to communicate with everyone in the group, address comments to specific people while still letting everyone else know what you said. Using this type of set up, you can reduce your email volume, which are mostly status updates anyway. So, it seems that it can be a very effective way to communicate with your team.

Teambox has a similar functionality as most project management software, but it allows you to set up different permissions, so that you don't have to give everyone on the team access to the whole program. One of the other great selling points is that it also acts as a mobile app, allowing you to receive updates straight to a smart phone, so that you don't have to be in front of a computer every time you want to check the progress.

 

The Teambox program offers 3 projects and 50MB of storage for free, with paid accounts allowing you to have as many as 2,000 projects with 250GB of storage. But, the great thing is that since the program is open source, you can install it onto your own server for free and have no limits and customization.

 

Overall, Teambox looks like it could be an answer for anyone who needs to get a team organized and has many tasks that need to be delegated.
