Don’t Fight Technology

Last week I called a friend who is a top salesman for his company. I asked him if he was using Skype. He told me he had friends who used it, but hadn’t gotten around to using it because he didn’t see the need for it.

The other day I spoke with my barber, and she told me business had been very slow lately. I asked if they ever thought about creating and sending out a monthly electronic newsletter to their clients. She told me they had talked about it with the owner of the business, but never took any action.

I spoke with a married couple who ran a day care center out of their home, and asked if they had a website. I mentioned to them I had read that about 75-85% of people visit the website of a business before they use their services or purchase any of its‘ products. They told me they didn’t have the time for it.

Finally, I spoke with a relative who was downsized from his company earlier this year and asked how things were going. He told me he hadn’t had any luck yet, finding a new job. Knowing he didn’t use a computer, I asked him if he had taken any computer classes to help him be more competitive in his job search. His response was he wasn’t the type of guy who liked to use computers.

Interestingly enough, each of the people I had spoken with, was between the ages of 38 and 65 years. It is plain to see that there are many people who still resist using today’s technology to help them be more competitive. Here is my point. Most people do not have the luxury of resisting technology any longer. If you want to be more qualified for the next job for which you apply, or run your small business more profitably, you need to eliminate any reluctance to learning, and using technology. When you are able to stay current, and employ the use of technology, you will find it to be a major advantage.
